Registration at Nanjing University (UPDATED 09.20)

I will write step by step my registration at the NJU. Things might change so, as soon as you arrive, make sure you have your information updated.

1. If you live in dorms (or you have scholarship) you have to go to Xiyuan (西苑Dormitory in order to check in.
You will be given a room and most probably you will have a roommate. DO NOT forget to ask about registration timetable at the ‘check in’, they shall have that information (usually copies in Chinese and English).

2. Then you follow given timetable; you shouldn’t have any problems with that. Make sure you come early to be “first come, first served”. Otherwise you will have to wait in the long queues for hours and get sore foot.

3. There will be papers for the new students to fill in, you do that and afterwards you have to:

Singing in: you must bring your passport, admission notice and visa papers.
Student ID: you shall bring 4 photos, and papers you used for the singing in.
Paying fees: IF you HAVE scholarship you SKIP that step. However, if you DO NOT HAVE, then you need to get the fees notice and then you have to pay right at the spot.

4. The last and the most troublesome step is getting papers for the Residence Permit.
YOU NEED: your Health Check papers, and the same papers as for singing in. HOWEVER, IF you DO NOT LIVE in dorms provided by the NJU, you MUST register with the police (Special Police Bureau near Baixia Road) and BRING that paper as well! You also need to bring photos preferably with WHITE background. Near Special Police Bureau you can find many places to make photos. (~20RMB the fastest, 6 photos)

About the Health Check:
I have done my health check in Hungary, BUT, my doctor (or maybe me since I didn’t insist enough) was stupid by not allowing me to get the ACTUAL ‘pictures’ of ECG and X-ray. Thus they did not approve my heath check papers and I had to do those tests once again on the spot.
Surprisingly enough, tests themselves were VERY FAST, but you need to queue for the paper work.

The Heath Bureau is located on Baixia Road N1. You can get there by taxi, it shouldn’t be more than 15-20RMB. However, if you coming there by metro, getting on LINE 1 鼓楼站 or 珠江站; getting of at 张府园站。I do not remember the exit (maybe 2nd), it should be towards the 高中学校, some school, right side of the 中山南路。You will have to walk down and then turn left. There is a kinda parking lot in front of Health Bureau. I am sure you won't miss it.

About the Residence Permit:
If you are coming by metro, LINE 1, getting on either at 鼓楼站 or 珠江站;you need to get off at 张府园站。I do not remember which exit you need to take (maybe 3rd), you will need to go up the 中山南路, towards 新街口(on the left side of the road). As soon as you petrol station you need to turn left and walk straight on the 洪共祠 street. You will see 南京公安局 on the both sides of the road.

The one for foreign people is on the left. You will have to fill in the papers, go from the window to the window, give in your passport and finally receive payment papers. I payed on the spot, however some people did it on the date of getting the passport back. For one year residence permit I needed to pay 400RMB. Officially you get your passport back in 3 weeks, however they have told us to come in one week, thus pay attention to what they tell you, haha~
